Forum Calendar?
Hey fonix,
Do you know if phpBB supports a calendar feature? I thought it would be cool if people could post their trip dates to a calendar so you could see who you might run into along the trail.
Keep up the good work. These forums are a great planning resource!

Re: Forum Calendar?
I'm not sure, but it was on our 'wish list' for the forum, for sure! For now, we're limited to scanning the Trip Log under Trip Reports, that's where folks post planned itineraries.
For what it's worth, I've met several people that way... It's what I love about this forum!

Re: Forum Calendar?
I've looked into trying to do something like this, but extending the forum software is all hard and hurty if you aren't a programmer (which I'm not).
Some other type of method for logging trip reports (in an order, such as by date), is the number one priority for the forum. Still, thanks for the suggestion...it's those types of ideas that help the forums stay viable.

Re: Forum Calendar?
Thanks, Tom and fonix.
I'll stick to looking through the Trip Log thread.
I wonder how feasible it is to use an external calendar like Google or Yahoo--create a new public calendar that could be linked from the forums?

Re: Forum Calendar?
^I was thinking the same thing. I've done group things where we used Google calendar to keep track of meetings and events and it worked out well. But I don't know how well it works for a lot of individuals each posting their own plans. It might get too hard to read, I don't know.

Re: Forum Calendar?
Brownbear has free calendar use: http://www.brownbearsw.com
And you can password protect it with a general password like "irforums" or something similar if wanted. Calendars can be listed or unlisted in their directory.
My family uses a private calendar on brownbear for our cottage in the eastern U.P.

Re: Forum Calendar?
I haven't been able to find any way to add a calendar to the forum yet, but I'm still looking.
ScoutDad: I like your suggestion with the web calendar from Brown Bear, but would like to find a way to integrate it a bit more into the original forums here. I'm contacting the developer to see if there's anyway to do that.
I do have a fancy weather script I can put on the forums that reads the weather from the Rock of Ages station and/or Mott Island weather station and display it on the page...if anyone is interested...
