Requesting fishing Lake Superior advice

I'm having a really hard time finding information about fishing the Lady herself. We'll be boating and would like to do some trolling. Hubby did plenty of that when we worked there but it was by the small boats that RHL rents and early in the summer when the trout weren't deep. He has the reefs marked but is unsure at what depths to troll. Tackle isn't too much an issue but size of weights is a question. Can anyone help us out? Much appreciated.

If you want to troll, downriggers are really the only efficient means for reaching the fish. You can also jig, it is an excellent method, jigs from 3/4 oz. to 6oz. are what I use reach bottom depending on the depth and how much wind and/or current you are fishing in.

Thanks Don. I'm positive I can't talk hubs out of trying but hey it's the journey not the destination. He once saw a 'log' move move in McCargoe Cove and has never forgetten that pike. Said it was longer than he was tall. (Uh, ok dear.) In any case fishing for nortens is fun!

Hi Don, do you have any advice on what to wash when trolling for lakers? Are dipseys effective as well as riggers and do you ever snag a stray salmon?

Last week others were having great luck jigging. Said they were down about 200'.

you can jig deep water with fishin stix tipped with some fish meat or just some curly tails. For trolling if you don't have down riggers you can always get jet divers. They are made to dive to certain depths 60 ft, 50ft, 40ft,...etc. These are nice to use and are only about $8 each and are much easier to use then dipsey divers and even down riggers, you can tie them directly onto your line and then have a 6' leader to your lure. Good, cheap and easy way to get to deep water

I'll be fishing in a rental boat for the 1st few days. Moskey Basin to Merritt Lane (Rock Harbor Rules)...where are some good spots? I've been studying Google Earth looking for drop offs and Pike spots. Where can I catch a few?
