Best map source?

Post by Pioneer Spirit »

I'm looking for the best maps that show all of the trails for a first time trip next year. Got any recommendations?

National Geographic Trails Illustrated map #240. You may find it at a local outdoors shop (I've seen it N.C. before), but if not you can order it here: http://www.irnha.org/. I can't guarantee it, but I'm pretty sure you can get them on the island too, although I'd want it before then. :)

Oh yes, I used a National Geographic map in the Smokies. Very nicely detailed and to the point.

Edit: add link:

I ordered the map late last week and it arrived yesterday. It shows the trails plus portage routes between the inland lakes/ponds, included are elevations and water depth in surrounding Lake Superior. Water proof and tear resistant and large, it may be objectionable to the ultra light crowd but I wouldn't go without it and it will serve me well next year.
