Hook restrictions on a fishing lure?

Some references to fishing rules on waters within IR seem to indicate "single hook" as well as "no barb." Easy enough to crimp the barb down, but are we supposed to remove 2 of the treble hooks on a lure? What about lures which originally have two treble hooks?

From last years Greenstone:

Only barbless hooks may be used in Inland lakes.
Barbed hooks may be pinched.

I have clipped off one of the hooks on treble hooks to facilitate unhooking lure from the fish and minimizing damage to the fish.
However this is not a Park regulation.

FYI--Johnhens was elated when IR went barbless. Since he never catches any fish anyway, it makes his "One that Got Away" story somewhat more plausible!

One hook is good! I cut my hooks off when they are really biting.

Pinch the barbs down with a pair of pliers. On lures that have 2 sets of treble hooks, you can replace the treble hooks with a single hook on each "eye" or replace the front hook with a single and cut off one of the hooks off the treble hook on the rear so that your treble is now a double (?) hook. It makes it much easier on the fish you will be releasing.

I have not noticed a difference in missed hits with either the single or double hook setup.
Again pinch the barbs on any lure you will be using on the inland lakes, and release any northerns over 30" on inland lakes.
I release all of the northerns over 30" even if caught on Superior.

Do you bring side cutters with you in addition to pliers/hemostats?

Rapala makes a mini side cutter that is smaller and lighter in weight. I wonder if it would be sufficient to cut hooks?

I don't bring side cutters (I actually use lineman's pliers) with. I have a box of lures I take to IR. A few years ago, I went through and "doctored" all the lures in the box either pinching barbs and/or cutting one of the treble hooks off.

Another question...do all lures I have on me have to be barbless or just the ones I'm using? I ask because I am bringing lures for wife, son, and I and I would rather not clamp down the barbs on all of the lures if the first one we use is catching fish. So basically can I get into trouble if I am in possession of hooks with barbs or only if using them? I have no problems doing it I just don't want to "modify" a bunch of lures if I don't need to. Thanks.

Just the lure on your line needs to be barbless.

Thanks Inca...that was my plan. Of course our son is 7 so I'll probably have to clamp down all the barbs because he'll have to use every lure
