Same here - August 15-30, and used the bug dope once. A few biting flies at Little Todd the first week, and otherwise general mosquito action, but nothing worth bothering with. One or two days I tried not to pause too often while hiking.

Biting flies at Rainbow Cove during the first week of September that were a bit annoying. Otherwise a handful of mosquito bites, nothing worth worrying over. Surprised to see them so late in the year.

Just off the island on 9/11. no mosquitos at all. I never even saw a biting fly, although folks at Daisy told me they were bad there.

Got off the Island yesterday, some mosquitoes, not bad. We had warm weather. We were there 6 days, 3 1/2 there were 4-6' waves on the lake.

Just got back Thursday. There were some black flies at Little Todd but they were merely annoying....no biting

Hello fellow Island hikers. I usually hike the first week of June, but this year I am trying the first week of July. Which end of the island would you recommend would maybe be better or worse for bugs.
Thanks
Zim

I wouldn't worry as much about sides of the island as staying more along the big lake. The bugs seem better along Superior with the breeze.
