Thanks for the comments fonix & John.
Fonix, you actually caught a mileage mis-calculation on my first (posted) itinerary, between McCargo and Lane. I had mis-read the mileage chart.
If you hadn't caught that, we would have had one helluva day for sure!
This trip was actually planned to be my son's (soon to be) father-in-law. his nephew, my son and myself. The planning was all the father-in-law's.
It was supposed to be a week in July, via the Queen. Then a week in July, via Royale Air.
It was then shortened to only three nights!
My son had to drop out & my best friend and hiking partner joined (He & I were on the island together in 2006 with four Boy Scouts.)
We decided that if we were gonna drive 1200 or so miles, round trip, we wer gonna do a week, for sure.
We started planning, and came up with the first route.
Forum feedback modified the itinerary and finally we settled on what I have posted hear and in "Trip Reports."
The final route lets me complete all the trails east of Chickenbone and west of Rock Harbor.
I also get to hit the "can't miss" (hiking) campsites. I think all I will miss is East Chickenbone, and from what I've read, that is not such a loss.
Eventually, I'd like to hit every trail and every campsite, including the canoe sites.
