Re: 2010 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
Ahh! I have 11 days until my fiance and I leave for our trip!!!! Of course we live in Ohio so the first night (June 24th) will be spent in Mackinaw City. Then we drive up to Copper Harbor and stay there for a night and we leave on the Queen for Isle Royale on June 26th! We're still putting together the food menu, which is somewhat difficult.

Hello
We arrived on the Voyager on wed morning, headed for washington creek. Attended all the ranger talks, and canoed twice. We changed shelters for different views. Plans change, what can I say. Headed home Sunday. Was great.

Re: 2010 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
Leaving Port Huron, MI August 27th.
Spend night in Copper Harbor.
Aug 28th - Rock Harbor to Daisy Farm (7.1)
August 29th - Daisy Farm to Moskey Basin (3.9)
August 30th - Moskey Basin to Chippewa Harbor (6.2)
August 31st - Chippewa Harbor to West Chickebone (7.9)
Sept 1st - West Chickenbone to Daisy Farm (7.9)
Sept 2nd - Daisy Farm to Rock Harbor (7.1) in time for the ferry back to Copper Harbor.
Only question about our itinerary is, should we attempt the hike from Daisy Farm to Rock Harbor hoping to make the ferry, or would it be better to push on to Three Mile the night before? (Sept 1st) Then we'd only have a 3 mile hike to make the ferry.
Any thoughts?

If you're taking the Queen back, it looks like a nice trip. Should be okay.

Name: Mark
Hometown: St. Paul, MN (born & raised in Royal Oak, MI)
Arrival Date: September, after Labor Day
Coming From/Via: Grand Portage via the Voyageur II
Itinerary:
Day 1. Windigo to Island Mine
Day 2. Island Mine to South Lake Desor
Day 3. South Lake Desor to Little Todd (off trail from Ishpeming Point to the Minong Trail)
Day 4. Little Todd to Hatchet Lake
Day 5. Hatchet Lake to Malone Bay
Day 6. Malone Bay to Windigo via the Voyageur II
Notes/Other:
This solo trip will allow me to experience some of the trails/campsites that I have not been to before. When this trip is complete, I will have hiked all the trails on the island except for a segment of the Greenstone Ridge Trail from Hidden Lake to Mt. Franklin. I also get to visit my favorite campsite, Little Todd. I've done a fair amount of off trail hiking at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, and this is my first experience at off trail hiking on Isle Royale. If I can find a reasonably easy way down off the Greenstone Ridge Trail at Ishpeming Point (i.e. no cliffs) it is only about a mile further to reach the Minong Trail as it turns northwest to Little Todd. After perusing the aerial photos and topo maps at great length, I think I have a series of waypoints ready to enter into my GPS. It may be rough going but I will take my time. I hope to stay away from the swamps and traverse mostly through maple and birch hardwoods.
Edited to add: Link to trip report...

Re: 2010 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
Sshh, don't tell anyone especially my wife. I coming up for a second time this summer. Actually a couple from Urbana, Ohio and I will be leaving Copper Harbor on August 10 (only 9 more days). We'll be canoeing and dayhiking the Rock Harbor area. Our itinerary, canoeing to:
August 10 Daisy Farm (dayhike up to the Greenstone and firetower, over to the Daisy Farm trail and back hopefully to a shelter)
August 11 Moskey Basin (finally) (dayhike to the Indian Portage trail and back)
August 12 Caribou Island (I'll dayhike the trail from Moskey back to Daisy Farm and have the canoe pick me up to go to the fishery and lighthouse across the harbor) (then on to Caribou Island)
August 13 Tookers Island (we'll dayhike Mott Island first and then on to Tookers)
August 14 Rock Harbor (take a trip out to Raspberry Island and dayhike the Stoll or Tobin Harbor)
August 15 dayhike Stoll or Tobin Harbor, return to Copper Harbor

A couple of years back, myself and two others hiked from Moskey Basin to Rock Harbor in just under 4 hours. We were even passed up by younger group right out of Moskey.
You could do Daisy to RH pretty quick, or make a day of it. Depending on the day the Queen could drop some folks off, and would potentially make those Three Mile sites fill up quick.

Name: Jason
Hometown: Akron, Ohio
Arrival Date: Aug. 15
Departure Date: Aug 20
Coming From/Via: Copper Harbor
Itinerary:
15th Lane Cove
16th day hike Lookout Louise overnight at Lane Cove
17th Chickenbone West
18th Moskey Basin
19th Three Mile
20th Copper Harbor
Our trip is quickly approaching and the excitement is getting unbearable. 2 adults and 2 well traveled kids. Checking another off the bucket list that never seems to get shorter. I've been dreaming of this trip for 10+ years. It is gonna be a rough one on my boys, but i think they can handle it. They've been training hard (8 and 10 mile dayhikes with packs). Most likely I'll have trouble keeping up.
Oh, and thanks for all the great info on the site!

cv2,
You'll have access to water at all the places listed, have no fear.
