It would be kinda cool (no pun intended) to spend a few weeks on Isle Royale in the winter. I'm sure it would be a weird feeling knowing that you were the only person on the island. Talk about feeling isolated! Plus it would be really neat to see the island covered in snow as opposed to the way we all usually see it.

When I was on the island for the 50th anniversary of the wolf/moose study, I was walking out to the America dock to watch the sunset and there was a man already there. To make conversation, I asked him if he had been to the island before. He said, "Never in the summer." It turned out he was the son of the original pilot for winter study. It was so interesting to talk to one of the few people with an "inside-out" picture of the island than most of us. That celebration was a great time and I'm glad I had a chance to be there.
