"What are you spending your REI dividend on?" 2010 edition
As is customary this time of year, I always pose the question to the forums to see what new fun stuff everyone is getting (reference here for last year's thread: http://isleroyaleforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=440)
Last year I ended up buying luggage and not the MSR stove I wanted. LAME. So this year I'm aiming to pick up said stove.
How about you, what are you going to get when you get your dividend and your 20% off coupon?

What stove are you getting? I love my pocket rocket.
Haven't yet seen my dividend amount--mail here is slow sometimes.

Dividends come out on 3/22 (so I was told). If you go on REI's site and enter an order, your Dividend amount should come up. Don't complete the order if you don't need anything.Kevinl wrote:What stove are you getting? I love my pocket rocket.

I just did this and it says that dividends won't be calculated until March 14.Dividends come out on 3/22 (so I was told). If you go on REI's site and enter an order, your Dividend amount should come up. Don't complete the order if you don't need anything.

Re: "What are you spending your REI dividend on?" 2010 edition
I should have a nice amount coming to me. I'm looking at the possibility of hiking the John Muir Trail this summer, so I'm considering two pieces of gear I have never used: a bear canister (with carrying case so I can strap it to the outside of my pack) and trekking poles.
I'm really happy with most of my gear and can't think of wish-list items. Although I can never have enough new boots. I loves me some boots. Wouldn't mind a new kayak either but my wife says "one boat in, one boat out" and my dream boat (Dagger RPM Max) isn't made anymore so I'm looking for that used, which is really the only condition I would buy any kayak.

Do you guys mean "dividends" as in stocks? If so how much do they cost?

If you get a REI Visa card. It earns 1% for ever dollar you spend. So REI has a dividend check they cut in March. I put a lot of purchases on it throughout the year and have a dividend check close to $100. Add this to the 20% sale flyer coupon and you can pick up some nice gear for free or very cheap. I've purchased a nice raincoat, Thermarest pad and a backpack for my daughter for close to nothing.

Just purchased a new High Sierra Internal frame pack. The 20% off on top of the
already low price was way too inviting not to buy. I check REI-Outlet on-line site
every other week for such clearance deals. J

REI is a co-op. By becoming a member ($20 for life) you receive an annual dividend commensurate on your purchases. Basically, you get about 10% back on your normal purchases. Some sale item/clearance items are excluded. If you use their credit card, you can get more.kfinnguy wrote:Do you guys mean "dividends" as in stocks? If so how much do they cost?
For many of us, the end of March signals the "I spent WHAT?!?" mailing from REI.. Which is why we always are planning our next purchase.
For me this year, I think it's going to be an extra set of base thermal layers, since I'm heading out to the Isle on May 8th..

I have $4.40 coming - that's my punishment for hardly ever buying anything at full price. sierratradingpost.com is my main outfitter.
