Showers at Windigo

Quick question for those of you who have been at Windigo in late September...I know the concession at Windigo will be closed by the time we reach there on September 25th. I'm guessing this means the showers are closed as well but wanted to confirm. A shower would be so nice after a week on the trail...

Yes, the showers will be closed. They close Memorial Day Weekend. But look on the bright side, everyone else on the boat ride home will be just as smelly as you so no one will notice!

It's the drive back to Minneapolis that scares me! Windows definitely open.

Swim everyday and you won't be smelly.

YIKES! It's earlier every year! I'm sure Niners meant LABOR day..

In September, I'd say that the inland lakes could be pretty darn nice and warm. (Relatively speaking.)
Even the shallows and bays of Superior could be tolerable.

Then again, I suppose there is a reason the back of the boat is called the 'poop deck.'

We stay at the Casino Marina Campground the night of pre-entry. The cost is
somewhere around $17 and the Casino Hotel Pool/sauna/showers is included in
stay so we have a relaxing sauna the night before shipping out.

Most of the standard midrange hotels welcome guests to use their pool facilities
for a price, so you might even be able to just pay a small fee of $5 or so. Worst
case, $17 for a campsite you will not use and that is cheaper than Widigo showers.

The water can be nice and warm that time of year, especially in the harbor there at Windigo. I like a good swim near the plane dock with a nice sunny air dry to get rid of a couple layers of scent.

On the flip side, does anyone know when the showers at Rock Harbor open? We will be there the week of 5/31 this year. I was told by the lodge that the Dining Room and Grill will open on Tuesday, June 8th.

Generally they open around Memorial Day weekend. But it can be earlier or later depending on the staff the lodge has available.

Windigo showers and concessions usually open about a week after Rock Harbor. They tend to close earlier as well.

Last year the showers and the general store at Windigo were not open on Memorial Day.

The campground in Grand Portage has showers. I'm sure they would allow people to use them before the trip back home for a small fee. If you happened to camp there the night before the trip my guess is that you could take a return shower for free, but thats just a guess. They are normally open by the time the Vll starts.
