The article says the Ranger had to dock on the other side of the bridge to unload passengers returning from the island while the Downtowner Lounge enjoyed three hours of sudden popularity.

Re: Lift Bridge Stuck Briefly in Houghton
The day before we went to Copper everyone was abuzz in Houghton. Wallmart employees weren't allowed to end their shift because people in Hancock that were on their way in were trapped on the other side.
On Thursday while packing up and getting ready to head up at the cottage, we heard on the radio and a few phone calls from family that the bridge was going into the up position at 6:30, this was at 5:30, we busted around and got packed up really quick and made it over the bridge by 6pm, we weren't going to get stuck on the other side the day before the trip.
Then when we made it back our family told us that the Ranger had to go south and our Portage Entry to Baraga bay and then around the Kee before heading to ISRO, they said it was pretty cool to watch the Ranger go by the cottage
