I received my Jan 2011 Backpacker Magazine today, the "Readers' Choice" awards with "America's Best Hikes" and "National Park Secrets."
Somebody went and blabbed all about hiking McCargoe Cove to Rock Harbor. This "John Heneghan" (sounds like a fishy pseudonym, to me) shared some wonderful information about our favorite place. I wonder if IR Forums very own JohnHens knows this guy.

All kidding aside, a wonderful piece contributed by one of our own. Kudos, John!

OK Dorian and Tom. Did you see sometime in one of the Backpacker issues this year they listed Isle Royale NP as being in Minnesota (MN)?

I hiked from McCargo to Rock Harbor, nice hike.

Larry, I think that is a link to something prior.
Backpacker 'adjusts' facts, such as my wolf siting. Tricia and I were with Ranger Carl at Belle Isle.
They negelect to add the best places to look for greenstones are pretty much boat accessible only.

I hiked from McCargo to Moskey then to Rock Harbor. I didn't take the Greenstone.

I did see that, and it's a fairly common mistake for those who don't actually check. I'm sure it has everything to do with proximity, of course.
Being from Minnesota myself, however, I had no incentive to correct them...

Being a graduate of Minneapolis Central HS I still love where I grew up. Can't figure out why Isle Royale can't be part of Minnesota. I know about Ben Franklin and the Michigan Territory, etc.

It's always nice to have IR featured in Backpacker. As much as I don't want IR to be crowded, it would be nice for more people to check it out.

I thought Isle Royale was in Iowa.

Sure Isle Royale is a bit far from Michigan, little does everyone know that its our secret spy base to keep an eye on your Minnesotans. You guys look shifty - Just saying.
