2013 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
Once finalized as best as possible, post your itinerary, and then look around the list at who may else be enjoying a trip at the same time. It's a great way to make new friends on the Island.
If you have questions or want feedback on your planned trip, consider posting your questions on the Trail and Campsites (http://www.isleroyaleforums.com/viewforum.php?f=4) and Canoeing, Kayaking, & Fishing (http://www.isleroyaleforums.com/viewforum.php?f=5) subforums.
We also have a visual calendar (http://www.isleroyaleforums.com/viewtop ... f=8&t=1776) to post the simple schedule, as well.
When you return, we hope you share your experience with a Trip Report!
Please copy below and post your plans in the following format:

UPDATE 4/03/2013
Name: John
Email: Please PM me
Hometown: Shelby Township, MI
Arrival Date: May 31
Departure Date: June 5 (provided the Queen maintains the special Wednesday shipping date)
Coming From/Via: Copper Harbor
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive via the Queen and take the water taxi to Moskey Basin. Hike to Lake Ritchie for the first night.
Day 2: Wake up, fish Ritchie for a bit and then head to W. Chickenbone, set up camp and do some fishing.
Day 3: Get up early and hike with minimal gear to Hatchet Lake then on to Todd Harbor. Spend the night at Todd (if I can get a shelter) or head to McCargoe (where i will spend the night or head back to WC)
Day 4: Head back to W. Chickenbone and do some fishing / relaxing
Day 5: Spend the day working my way towards Lane Cove for night 5
Day 6: Get up and hike from Lane Cove to catch the boat back.
A few notes:
[strikeout]This will be a solo trip.[/strikeout] I've enlisted a buddy to come along this year. He's an IR first timer so I look forward to sharing his first trip to this little slice of heaven.
I've replaced most of my gear with new, lighter weight stuff. Based on my trial pack wieghts with food for 5 nights (plus a spare), I'm in the ~35 range including fishing gear and my new light wieght pack raft (less than 3.5# with paddle!).
I'm a fishing nut, so any available time that i'm not hiking or setting up camp will be spent fishing.
Thanks and hope to see you all there!

Departure Date: July 2
Coming From/Via: Copper Harbor/Queen IV
Itinerary: Monday cruise to Passage Island. Otherwise day hike, paddle, hang out, whatever we feel like.

Arrival Date: May 13th
Departure Date:June 9th
Coming From/Via:Copper Harbor via Queen IV - depart Windigo via Voyager
Itinerary: Tentatively May 13th thru June 3rd Spent circumnavigating the island via canoe. RH to RH. Then meeting the girlfriend on June 3rd in RH and hiking back across the island over 6 days to Windigo.
Notes/Other:
A better Itinerary will be posted later once I figure days and camp sites out and weather will also play a major role in this trip. I'm graduating from Northern Michigan University on May 4th and needed a good adventure after 5 years of school. I'm looking forward to spending time "finding myself" (as dumb as it sounds lol) to figure out what to do with the rest of my life and where to pursue a career in GIS and Environmental Conservation.

Re: 2013 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
Name & E-mail: Please PM me.
Hometown: Macomb, MI
Arrival Date: 29 July
Departure Date: 4 August
Coming From: Copper Harbor
Itinerary:
Day 1, Monday: Arrive at Rock Harbor and establish a camp for the night as I’m waiting for a ride on the Voyageur II in the morning. For the afternoon my plan is for a ‘Tour de Tobin’ so that I can visit places that I’ve never been such as Monument Rock. I also want to investigate the portage trail over to Duncan Bay to aid me in planning my 2014 trip to the island.
Day 2, Tuesday: Take the Voyageur II to Chippewa Harbor, arriving around 10, EST. Probably overnight at Lake Whittlesey.
Day 3, Wednesday: Establish camp at Wood Lake. Depending on the weather I’d like to paddle to Malone Bay to see the sights, and have lunch. Also, introduce myself to Ryan Island so that I can say I was there.
Day 4, Thursday: Overnight at either Intermediate Lake or Lake Richie. My plans are a little flexible for days 4 & 5. Depending on the weather, how I feel, need for exertion, etc. I’ve considered setting up camp at Lake Richie and portaging over to West Chickenbone and back for an unburdened day trip.
Day 5, Friday: Overnight at either Lake Richie or Moskey Basin
Day 6, Saturday: Paddle up Moskey toward Rock Harbor. Cruise by Daisy Farm and tease footsore backpackers. Visit Edison Fishery. Overnight at Caribou Island. (As Caribou Island could be full, I shall reconsider teasing the backpackers, as I may just have to suck it up and go back to Daisy Farm for the night.)
Day 7, Sunday: Continue to Rock Harbor to meet the IR Queen for my return trip to Copper Harbor. If time and conditions allow, visit Raspberry Island.
Note: My first three IR trips have been as a backpacker. This is my first canoe trip there. I own a 15-foot Rapidfire solo canoe that only weighs about 26 pounds. Due to the weight, I’m more open to the idea of making portages, provided I’m not carrying my full kit. I’ll be carrying fishing gear to entertain myself.

Re: 2013 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
1st post!! I lurked on this board leading up to my 1st trip in 2010 & have been doing the same the last few weeks as I've been making plans for my next trip. I figured since I'm a local I should get in the mix & try to help the community out.
Name: Justin Ryan
Email: darksideofoz(at)hotmail.com
Hometown: Calumet, MI
Arrival Date: July 15th
Departure Date: July 21st
Coming From/Via: Copper Harbor
Itinerary:
15th: Paddle to Duncan Narrows, or Merritt Lane if we can't get around the point
16th: Paddle everywhere! Duncan Bay, or Lane Cove, or Belle Isle for the night
17th: Paddle everywhere! Belle Isle, or Pickerell Cove, or Birch Island or back country camping for the night
18th: Hike around Chickenbone all or part of the way. McCargoe, or Chickenbone East/West, or Birch Island, or back country camping for the night
19th: See above.
20th: V2 from McCargoe to RH for the night
21st: Something fun around RH & then departure
Notes/Other: Thanks to Ingo for helping me get this itinerary looking very nice. It even saves us a lot of money & we get extra time! I like that we can take our time each day with no pressure to have to get very far if we even have to move at all.
