i have a reservation booked on the voyager II; was wondering if there are any food or beverages served on board or do i bring my own or either one?...also was qurious if i can bring a few beers on board or is it against regulations?....hate to see somebody cracking a brew open and hear myself saying, "man, i didn't know you could do that"

The VII serves hot coffee; they also have an assortment of candy bars, chips, and pop (or soda depending on what part of the country you are from!) for sale.
I am not sure about consuming alchohol on the VII, I am sure Capt Don will post when he sees this. I have brought beer and wine to the Island, never consumed on the VII nor have I seen anyone doing the same.

If you're drinking at 8:00am on the boat you're probably gonna have a rough time on the island .

Seriously, I don't think there's any issue carrying it, but as JohnH said don't know about cracking it open on the boat. Even if it is OK (which I doubt), it wouldn't be very courteous (for reasons you point out), unless you bring enough to share .

as far as this "bring enuf for everybody" thing... just curious...your not a grade school teacher are you...if i bring a can of chili...do i need to bring enuf for everyone?...really

I apologize -- my comments were not directed towards you personally, just random thoughts, like a picture that popped into my head of hopping on the VII and immediately putting one back myself. Sometimes my sense of humor doesn't come across well via internet (my kids say not at all...). Please do not take offense.

To be more helpful, johnhens answered your question well. Likewise I've carried, but have never seen anyone consume on the boat itself (and haven't asked).

I could be wrong, but I believe there is an "official" position that NO alcoholic beverages are allowed on the boat and do believe it states this somewhere in the rules.

However, on a couple of trips to and fro there were some libations and I was a bit jealous, but never expected any nor asked for any. If I truly wanted some, I would bring some and made sure I had some left.

I think the key thing here is just like with many things. Do not make a spectacle of it and keep in mind there are other people with their own thoughts on the matter.

If it ever becomes a problem, there will be signs put up and the rules will be strickly enforced. Just like when it was put in effect at certain docks.

Like many if not all things in life with other people, be cool about it and respect other people and we should all be able to get along.

This all of course is my opinion.

That is indeed true for the Ranger III, as indicated on Page 15 of the most recently posted Superintendent's Compendium. It doesn't explicitly include the other ferries, from what I can tell. (http://www.nps.gov/isro/parkmgmt/upload ... 031312.pdf)

I'm guessing each concessionaire gets to decide on their own, so perhaps Capt. Don will chime in. I'm pretty sure the USCG prohibits the working crew from drinking.. Passengers, well, perhaps we'll find out for sure!

I also can't help chuckling when I keep reading the word "served." It will make more sense when you get on the boat, of course. I think it's best to say complimentary coffee, and candy snacks for purchase, are 'available.'
However, I think getting one of those airline carts and having the deck hand roll down the center of the boat would be brilliant!

When you spend 2 weeks on the island, it doesn't matter what time it is if you are a beer drinker, a beer is ALWAYS wonderful!

Page 11 (Transportation Services) of the Greenstone 2013 Newsletter does say "No alcohol consumption on passenger ferries" - it's the first bullet under General Information.

As long as people are well behaved, the only ones I don't want to see drinking are the captain and the crew. Can you say "Captain overboard!"?
