wow... i think i weight too much to do that... the whole thing would sink when i stood on it lol

probably has something to do with the shape of the inside also. the vertical walls of a typical canoe would not allow it to slosh the same.

Back in my youth my brother and I would submerge the family Grumman sport canoe up to the gunwales and then "practice" self-rescues. (Also a fun way to play in the lake.) We would do something like this (although, from a practical perspective, if it was an emergency, sitting in the bottom of the boat is a safer option) and it does work enough to get the boat higher in the water, at which point some form of baling could take over without water pouring in. The lip on the gunwale of many aluminum canoes does trap some water when you're rocking it, though.
Ultimately we found flipping the canoe upside down (and being under it) and then "rolling back upright" with it was the option that drained the most water... At least for that boat.
