Broken Leg Night Rescue

We just got back today from spending five days on the island.

Somebody at some interior campground (not sure which), broke their leg Sunday afternoon/evening (August 28th). I was down at Tobin Harbor about 9:00 PM and saw/heard a helicopter come in from the north. It was hovering well southwest of us (Mott Island?) where it lifted the injured person out to safety. Monday morning we learned from the rangers that somebody broke their leg, and Monday afternoon I heard from Rolf Peterson that the helicopter came in from Thunder Bay.

I'm assuming that the person who broke their leg is OK.

Scary stuff once more. I hope the individual is OK.

Lots of injuries on the island this year...let's all remember that Isle Royale is a wild place and that safety is paramount here (more so than at your neighborhood State Park).

If this is the same one that I was standing next to... A kayaker broke her ankle getting out of her kayak on day one of her trip. other than that she was ok.

This is good news. Let's hope it's the same situation. Thanks for following-up.

The person I was referring to in my original post had to be air-lifted to Thunder Bay via helicopter. The rangers told us the person broke their leg.
