Cheap Lodging near Grand Portage?

I'll need a motel the night I arrive in Grand Portage (Sat Sept 20) before taking the boat to Windigo the next morning. Most of the nearby motels seem to be in Grand Marais. Among those in Grand Portage are Grand Portage Lodge and Ryden's Cafe/Motel.

Would you recommend either, or something else nearby?

We usually stay at Rydens, nothing fancy, clean and convenient. Less expensive than the Casino. There is a little restaraunt there also.
We will be there next Friday. They tend to fill during the fall hunting season, so call ahead.

Hey John! Are you going to be stopping in the Duluth area anytime soon on your way to/fro IR? You should drop me an email and let me know. Maybe we can hook up, even if just to say "hi".

We usually pay about $50 or so. I would make a reservation as the number of room is limited.

I think I paid around $40 this June. It's possible rates shift with the seasons. You most definitely want to call and get a reservation, either at Ryden's or the Casino. Grand Portage isn't exactly rife with places to stay..
Ryden's is a great breakfast place, too..

Hey thanks, I will call and get one. The few times we have made it to copper harbor we drove all night 8 hours and arrived just in time to get on board. Needless to say the boat ride was something else, but if you add dramamine its dream land. Anyway thanks for info.
