The Ranger III did not make the outbound trip to Isle Royale last Tuesday Sept. 3. They headed down the portage canal and got out just past the breakwater and ran into 14' and greater waves. Captain decided to turn around and return to Houghton. The Ranger III departed without incident the following day.

The Voyageur II was inbound to Grand Portage that same day, and after picking up hikers at Daisy Farm, they headed out through the middle islands passage and ran into rough seas. They turned around and went back to Rock Harbor. I believe they departed later in the afternoon when the storm subsided a bit.

I was camped at McCargoe Cove and the winds were not too bad, but it did rain cats and dogs for a while.
