Came across this story of a mother and son who travel to IR to go to Ryan Island in Sikiwit Lake to find "Moose Boulder", the largest "island" on the largest lake on the largest island in the largest lake on an island. I think I got that correct.

Darn, Johnhens, you beat me to it by less than an hour! I was going to post the same article!

I think if you went to Ryan Island in the Spring, particularly a wet Spring, you could find a "moose boulder". We have been there in late May, did not think to look for a "lake" on it.

I was on board with the story right up until they got lost. Did they paddle back to Malone Bay and then intend to hike back to Rock Harbor? Which park ranger's house did they end up finding? Malone Bay? Daisy Farm? It seems like some details that would lend credibility to the story were left out.

I had exactly the same questions. And, how did a canoe magically appear at Malone Bay and then disappear so they could hike back to Rock Harbor (18 miles mighta been Windigo???) unencumbered?

I figured they rented a canoe in Rock Harbor when they took the water taxi down to Malone Bay, but couldn't figure out where they could find a ranger to "drive" them back to the lodge. Have some roads gone in lately?

Love the “driven back”
