What's happening at Mott Island?

The camera had been down for a few days, now this. I've seen some fairly strange yet naturally occurring cracks in ice before but these looking awfully manmade. But that ice can't be very thick as it was open water just 5 days ago.

Haha, my first thought was snowmobilers too. But you know that can't be true, because nobody was doing donuts.

I'd guess the wind was blowing just the right direction into the harbor and put some funny stress on fresh ice.

This current cold snap has really made ice in a hurry. A few days back, it was mostly open water.

A surprising amount of current there in the Rock Harbor Channel.. As the winds blow, it forces water in and through the channel, shoving ice and such around. The little channel between Mott Island and East Caribou often looks more like a river than a lake. The current switches direction often though.
