Boaters should bring extra fuel to IR.

Post by johnhens »

From the NPS:

Personal Boats Traveling to Isle Royale are Encouraged to Bring Extra Gasoline
While gasoline for boats is still available on-island at this time, visitors bringing personal boats to Isle Royale are encouraged to bring extra gasoline with them in approved containers. Gasoline supplies are low in Rock Harbor. Diesel fuel is available.
Some vessels may be routed to Mott Island for fuel sales. Visitors need to check in at the Rock Harbor Marina first for gasoline - from there, they may or may not be routed to Mott Island. Fuel is available from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm daily.

Someone put up a message from the NPS saying not to bring fuel in cannisters. I will find out for sure. Maybe that is if they are taking the Ranger.

The NPS sent out an email specifying no gas containers in fishing boats loaded on the Ranger III. Here is a copy/paste of the blast email

For the rest of the season, you will be allowed to have your internal boats fuel tank full when transporting on the Ranger III. Please have your internal fuel tanks full to help preserve the availability of gas on the Island. You will not be allowed to transport gas by external means via the Ranger III , i.e. gas containers.

Thank You!
