Obtaining permit

We will be leaving in less than 2 weeks!! My question is: where in Windigo do I get my permit? I have a National Park season pass. The NP website says fees can only be paid 1030am-2pm. Is this different than obtaining a permit? We will arrive via seaplane at 4:30 and hope to be on the trail the next morning early. Hope I don’t have to wait around til 1030 to get the permit.

They have always had a ranger on duty when the plane is landing. Since Covid, they do a quick orientation in the picnic shelter, permits, and then you're on the trail.

And your season pass will cover your fee! (Probably those of your companions, too, provided they're not too numerous. The letter of the law is that everyone in the "vehicle" (which is clearly assumed to be a car at an NP entrance gate) with the pass holder is covered.)

Appreciate the input!
This will be our groups first visit and we are very excited to experience IR. The info I have gather from this site has been extremely helpful!

When I flew into Windigo on 6/5, there was no one doing an orientation and everyone had to self permit outside of the visitor's center.

I would sell my soul for this option. Waiting for orientation is such a time suck.

Be sure to bring photo ID, which is necessary before you can use your annual pass. Don't be like me, get to the front of the line, and realize your ID is buried in your pack... Which hasn't even been unloaded yet.

There was a self-check-in option in rock harbor for the first time. It was geared toward late flyers and I did not see it until after I was already registered.
