New Ranger IV?

Questions about how to get to the island and where to stay near points of departure.

New Ranger IV?

Post by Ingo »

This is in the latest IRKPA newsletter: "The design contract for a Ranger IV will be awarded this winter. Design phase estimated to take one year."
I wonder if there's money appropriated for the build, or just the design? Will be interesting to watch. I've only taken the Ranger III once, but planning to do so again this summer.

Here's a link to a 2015 US DOT transportation study for IRNP.
https://www.volpe.dot.gov/transportatio ... tion-study

I see at the bottom "the report also provides recommendations for identifying sources for capital funding, which range from $7.3 - $26.8 million"... Safe to say they have identified sources of funding if they're moving forward with the design phase of the project.

This latest news has me really scratching my head. The search for a Ranger III replacement was started under various umbrellas at least 8 years ago.

The main study was in 2015 as RedLeg points out. Although this effort was under the auspices of the Dept. of Transportation.

In 2018 there was also an invitation to (oddly) students to assist in designing a replacement.
