What are you spending your 2023 REI dividend on?

I'm getting a Helinox Chair Zero. One of my Alite Monarch chairs broke last year and unfortunately they aren't around anymore. And my wife should appreciate the 4 feet, since she never used the 2 footed Monarch.

I'm (finally) buying a Garmin inReach to give my relatives peace of mind. I'm especially a fan of the free check-in messages. Sadly the 20% coupon doesn't work on devices with GPS chips, but the dividend at least takes a bit of the edge off.

Looking for ways to improve my trail coffee, I bought an aeropress go. It makes great coffee, but I have yet to test it in the field.

Garmin: I've acquired my Garmin in an era where you were allowed to specify your own trio of free "preset" messages. One of mine is "at camp, intact". Another provokes a (typically wildly misleading) local weather report from NOAA.

REI: As is traditional, I got Darn Tough socks. I also subsidized a new daypack for Mr torpified, who has forsaken his present one because he's convinced that it's a poison oak vector.

Love "intact", although Ms Ingo probably wouldn't find it reassuring. But she's coming along this summer.

I have a Garmin for exactly these reasons and the preset messages are great. One thing i warn my wife or any other recipient of the messages about is the “911” message. I warn them that it is more likely that I will need to press the emergency button because i came upon an injured hiker than it being due to a problem I experience. (Just simple math; there are many more other hikers i see than there are me’s!). Not sure if this will help someone who sees the emergency message, but worth a shot.

Are the trio of free "presets" no longer an option? (Maybe I'm reading too much into your post.) I know that "check-in" messages are still unlimited... do you get to choose what they say?

Edit: I see now that "presets" are gone and "check-ins" are in, and they are pre-set (what a name) and can't be edited. Alas.

I think you're going to be very happy to find out it works great in the field.

I've been using it at home daily since I bought it. Makes fantastic coffee.

I took it on a scout camp out a few weeks back. It had the additional challenge of sub-zero temps, which lead to frozen stir stick and frozen filters. The coffee was still good.

I got 25$ to spend and will apply it to shoes. I have Oboz shoes and Brooks runners. Both need replacing.

I just ordered a GSI Halulite Minimalist II cookset. It's due to arrive tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out.

What is the 20% coupon you speak of?
