Star Rating System

Got to say I’m not a fan. The star system dirties up the forum board and does not seem to give a practical rating to the thread in question as the ratings all seem to same on almost every thread. Does anyone else feel the same way about the rating system. In my opinion, I think it should be disengaged.

The "Thank you" function was added as a way to say "I agree" or "good advice" without adding another post. As a feature of the forum software the star rating came along with it--I agree it's meaningless, but just ignore it. My presumption is that it's not simple, and maybe not possible, to have one without the other--I'd rather have both than none. (Hopefully someone will correct me if I got this wrong, I don't deal with the software).

Out of morbid curiosity, how does phpBB calculate / rank the star rating of a post?

It's not a rating system, nor is it calculated. It just shows that someone thanked you (appreciated, agreed with, or whatever) for the post.
