I recently learned from the National Park Service that they intend to rename Windigo to Ozaagaatang. This renaming came after the NPS' partnership with the Grand Portage band of Ojibwe. Ozaagaatang means "where the light shines outward."
Windigo has a negative connotation in Ojibwe, and the NPS plans to change the name soon. So, if you see Ozaagaatang instead of Windigo when you plan you're 2024 trip...you're still going to the right place

It will be interesting to see if other place name changes happen. And let's hope for a pronunciation guide!

I may be a blood, but this is going to be a challenge for me to say.

I predict that almost immediately, it will be known as "Oh-zah".
