Cross country camping between Mt. Franklin and Mt. Ojibway

We're planning to take the ferry From Grand Portage to Rock Harbor (which gets in at 4pm EDT) and we'd like to get as far as we can that afternoon. Are there reasonable sites for cross-country camping along the Greenstone between Mt. Franklin and Mt. Ojibway (Zone 12)? I realize there's no water; would be a dry camp.

Hard to get off trail in the steep terrain and dense forest. Better perhaps to just set Daisy Farm as a goal and push on through?
