Greetings all, new to the forum. I am in process of planning a boating trip to the Isle. Never been there before but have been a Great Lakes boater my whole life. Currently getting my electronics in order and other preparations to my boat. I have a 16ft inflatable I plan to take on the ferry. My question for now is regarding outboard motors.

Are two stroke motors allowed? I don’t see anything to state they are not but my motor along with any other motor running standard 50:1 will discharge a small amount of oily exhaust into the water. Just wondering if that would cause my motor to be banned. Here, I’m trying to avoid unexpected surprises when I get to the island. A little surprise like that would wreck my trip.

Don't know, I'd call or email the park HQ: https://www.nps.gov/isro/contacts.htm. There's also an I.R. Boaters group on Facebook that might be helpful.

There are no outboard motor inspectors or 2 stroke police on Isle Royal.

If you're bring a 16' RIB boat out I'm guessing you're coming out on the Ranger III. If you intend to travel GPIR I'd call first and make sure they can accommodate at 16' RIB & motor.

@ Iconic, "There are no outboard motor inspectors or 2 stroke police on Isle Royal(e)." I am not concerned if there are actual inspectors to enforce any rules. I would just rather know that I will be in full compliance regardless of being inspected or not. FYI, the NPS website does state that boats are inspected in at least to check for invasive species.

@ Red Leg, no I didn't say my boat was a RIB. Yes, I will be calling to make sure they can accommodate my boat in its inflated state on deck,in addition to other questions. Which at this point I have so many that I am investigating the forums first. My question at this point was solely regarding two stroke motors. Thanks for yours and everyone's input!
