My first reaction was April Fools, but that was already covered in a different post. My second reaction was too bad but won’t affect me who comes from MN. Oops, that wrong. Loss of the Ranger could affect everything. I am sure our politicians in DC will act quickly and responsibly,…. April Fools!

arrgghhhhhh! Does the Voyageur ferry materials for operations at Windigo, or is the Ranger a critical link in the supply chain for that?

It does not to the best of my knowledge

I'm thinking similar to COVID with no store, gas dock or anything else at either end.

My understanding is that Ranger provides all provisioning, staff transport, mechanical transport, and trash backhaul for the entire island. Without that ship the island is effectively closed.

I wonder when we will know what the impact of this will actually be. Ideally, NPS gets a waiver, or whatever is needed, to hire the bare minimum. Otherwise, I see a real risk of park closure. The park could open (minimum standards) with no trash hauling, no store, no fuel, but with no staff?

Well, they have about 12days and a wake-up to figure it out!

However I feel that it's VERY unlikely they wouldn't be air lifting food boxes with a f'ing Kiowa baby bird ($$$$) if they weren't planning some sort of contingency for an alternative season.

Have I missed it? The stores, lodge and places to eat are staffed by a private company. I would think a portion of that private company's contract with the park, should include a payment to the Nation Park. Any lose of revenue by the boat companies, the float plane company(s), campgrounds in the UP of Michigan and Minnesota is another negative.
