Hi friends! Looking for some feedback on our upcoming trip - Decided to skip the Greenstone Trail and make a loop around the south of the Island for some critter encounters. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the Feldtmann Loop was kind of short so we're stuck on what to do on the last day...

Day 1 - Windigo to Feldtmann Lake Campground
Day 2 - Feldtmann Lake Campground to Siskiwit Bay
Day 3 - Siskiwit Bay to Island Mine
Day 4 - Island Mine to Washington Creek Campground
Day 5 - Washington Creek Campground to Huginnin Cove
Day 6 - Huginnin Cove - ???

Our Ferry leaves at 1pm on Day 7 from Windigo so we aren't sure where we can go from Huginnin as there's no campsite that are immediately close or if we just hike around the area and end up back at Washington Creek for the night on Day 6.

Also Day 3 seems like a shorter hike so we we're wondering if there are other areas of interest around Siskiwit Bay/Island Mine that we could check out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Between Siskiwit Bay and Island Mine there's an old powder house from mining days on Senter Point. It's off-trail but if you search the forums you should find some discussion and tips on how to find it (have not done so myself). Also, not too far from Island Mine is a slag pile along the trail with an interesting steam engine behind it. And if you're looking for more that day, you could go past Island Mine and up to S Desor instead. The hike from Island Mine back to Windigo is probably the easiest on the island: obstacle free (mostly) and gradually downhill.

Personally I'd add a down day at Siskiwit Bay or Huginnin. Feldtmann is great for a layover too, but I typically prefer a down day later in the trip (spent the better part of a day hiking, exploring, and chilling at Rainbow Cove). Also might consider going from Island Mine to Huginnin, since I'm not keen on the relative civilization of Windigo/Washington Creek in the middle. And if you end up with time at the end, you can rent canoes and kayaks and paddle the harbor (weather permitting of course).

Just some thoughts from someone in the more laid back camp. It's a great loop and you'll have a great time whatever you decide.

I’d suggest a zero day at Siskiwit. It’s a beautiful place to spend some extra time and giving yourself a flexible day in case of weather is smart.

Another vote for a zero day at Siskiwit. It's a gorgeous place. If weather isn't great, you could skip the zero day there, and instead spend an extra day at Huginnin Cove. It's also beautiful and you might enjoy the rest more at that point.

Also another second for both exploring the old powder house and steam engine along the Island Mine trail, and also pushing on to South Desor.
