Here's the article I just read: Isle Royale kills problem wolf after increasing number of ‘concerning incidents’

Key quotes:

"In what is believed to be the first National Parks action of its kind on Isle Royale, park officials said today they had to kill one of the island’s wolves after it became too food-conditioned and had concerning interactions with park visitors."

Quote from the press release:

"After extensive monitoring and attempts at deterrence, and in consultation with state, federal and tribal agencies, the difficult decision to lethally remove this wolf was made. Park personnel will continue to track wolf/human interactions and remove additional wolves only if necessary."

I'm going to guess that the park would only take this kind of action if it was extremely necessary. They certainly know what kind of furor will follow!

Please please please keep it civil, folks.

It’s really so sad. I was never the biggest fan, but I can’t imagine euthanizing him was the only option.

Certainly not surprising. I suspect that, once conditioned to humans and our food, there is only a small chance of correcting the behavior. I worry about the other “problem” wolfe. Thanks for the update.

Indeed. Both the press release and article spoke of "at least two wolves"

I hope it was soon enough before the tactics were learned by others.
