East Pack Update

Sad news but I thought I would share - this came as an e-mail from Jill Burkland at the Natural History Association:

"Wolf Losses
The alpha female from Isle Royale’s East Pack was found dead last week. She apparently died in the process of giving birth and along with her were lost her eight pups, one born and seven unborn. Veterinarians who examined her have been unable to determine the cause of her death, which spells the end of the East Pack."

Sad new indeed. I followed the movement and life of all the packs throughout the Winter Study program. It sad to see a whole pack wiped out.

This is very disturbing news. :(

I have a feeling the clock is ticking for IR's wolf population. I'm really, really glad I'm heading back to the island this July to roam amongst them at least one more time. Thanks for the info.

Is there any update on this? These posts are nearly a year old?

- Thanks

The latest info I am aware of is the online journal of this year's winter study; here is a link:
