Re: TR 7/7-7/13/2014 [Belle Isle-Malone Bay]
See any bears? :o Very nice John. That is a dream route for me. Good choice on your canoe. So you camped on Caribou with all the kayakers? I read awhile back there is some sort of small cemetery on or near Caribou. Are you familiar with it? Glad you had safe enough waters to make it happen. I have ...

Re: TR: 6/29 - 7/2 2013 [Rock Harbor Lodge]
Nice report and pics John. I would like to visit Passage Island and even better would be for the park to allow for camping there for like a one night maximum. So what is Hidden Lake like? Were the shelters at Rock Harbor completely full and crowded?

These look pretty nice and convenient. Any plans to build a few of these on Blake Point?

I would rather be trampled by turtles than a moose, ha. Local band reference there.

Re: Paddling Reports re "5 Fingers" NE end of IR?
I also am aware there is a ranger cabin on the west end of Amygdaloid Channel. Is there anything worth seeing or doing on that end? Does a ranger actually live in that cabin certain times of the year? That is a really remote spot.

Re: Paddling Reports re "5 Fingers" NE end of IR?
Thanks for the info guys. I would really like to get on the ridge to see Amygdaloid Lake and if I can see Sleeping Giant PP, even better. I have been to SG and would love to go back and camp there in the future.

Re: Weather radio vs. VHF Radio
Thanks for the link. I am leaning towards the ICOM M24. Hopefully that will be sufficient. I will purchase it sometime before my trip in August.

Re: 2 Kayakers rescued at Pictured Rocks
First thoughts are if the kayak filled with water they obviously were not wearing a spray skirt and it does not mention if they were wearing a wet or dry suit. Thankfully it turned out ok.

Weather radio vs. VHF Radio
I have a noaa weather radio that I am planning on bringing to IR. The plan is to paddle via canoe from Belle Isle to Rock Harbor. I have read a number of times here a vhf radio would be a bit better? I do not have one but would be willing to buy one for this trip if necessary. Can someone say why ...

Re: Paddling Reports re "5 Fingers" NE end of IR?
Great topic and focal point for my canoe trip in August. We would like to start at Belle Isle and spend a couple nights there so we can explore that area a bit. I would really like to take a day trip and paddle thru the keyhole and across the Amygdaloid Channel to the hiking trail of the arch and ...

Re: TR Fall Sept-Oct 2006 Chippewa Base-Richie-Whitt-Wood
Sorry I have not been on here in awhile. I have not been on IR since 2006 as a few previous attempts to go since then had failed for various reasons. I am determined to go this summer in August and really looking forward to it. I do like to travel and have been exploring the Northwoods of Minnesota ...

Re: TR Fall Sept-Oct 2006 Chippewa Base-Richie-Whitt-Wood
Day 5 Sunday October 1st, 2006 Woke up at 5:45 and started getting our gear packed up for the boat ride back to Grand Portage. It was a beautiful morning with no wind and a superb sunrise that I had to get on video. The VII picked us up at 8:35 and just like that we were on way back. The days flew ...

Re: TR Fall Sept-Oct 2006 Chippewa Base-Richie-Whitt-Wood
Day 4 Saturday Sept. 30th, 2006 With our last full day here, I woke up by 7 and was in the canoe by 7:30 for a solo canoe trip around the harbor and went all the way to the end of the harbor to look for the portage to Lake Whittlesey. That was easier to find. On the way it was sunny, then it would ...
