Re: Barbless?
Chickenbone was hot according to other hikers? Lake Whittlesey stunk during the middle of July (only fished it one day).

Re: Raingear
I loved my rain jacket. My tried and true hiking pants/shorts dry fast so I didn't care if they were wet because they dried quickly. Overall, it depends on the weather and personal preference. I get to hot and sweaty hiking in raingear and if I'm conoeing I get really warm when I'm paddling (I usual...

Re: Barbless?
I go barbless anyway (I even cut some of my hooks off my lures)...pinch them down with a pair of fishing pliers like Damon suggested. You'll be catching so many fish that you don't really want to be messing around taking hooks out, keeping the fish out of water to long puts too much stress on them. ...

Re: canoeing or kayaking from rock harbor to chippewa harbor
Ingo, your advice was right on! Fog, wave patterns and weather all changes during the 6 mile stretch. I will add to the Trip Reports strand:)

Re: Fishing rod/reel for backpacking
Personal pref on 2 piece or 6 piece. I checked out both before I did my first big hiking/fishing backpacking trip. I felt a little more confident in the 2 piece, but any stick will catch fish.

Re: Fishing rod/reel for backpacking
Get the Shakespear! The last three years I've brought an Ugly Stick and a Wicked Stick (super stiff rod and only 30 bucks). I've never fished Chickenbone, however, I've heard lots of good things about it. Some guy was braggin' about a bunch of walleye's that he caught (one was a 25 incher). I think ...

Re: canoeing or kayaking from rock harbor to chippewa harbor
That was an experience! Decided to portage from Moskey to Ritchie and hit all the other lakes in the vicinity as well. Chip to Rock was challeging due to the fog and the terrible weather conditions. No white caps, but some big rollers. Made it safe and sound, however, a NPS ranger boat almost knocke...

Re: Fishing rod/reel for backpacking
Both look like fine rods! I bring two rods & reels to IR just in case something breaks. My buddy had his reel handle fall into the water this year:( Ed mentioned the PVC protector...I always bring a protective case too, however, my rods are usually two piece. I just got back a week ago from a tw...

Hot Fishing for Salmon Moskey Basin
Two weeks ago I had a lot a luck catching Coho Salmon on a deep deep diving rapala just past the Edison Fishery in the Moskey Basin area in a canoe. Cast those baits far and reel them fast!

Re: My 2010 Isle Royale Fishing Trip report and photo's
Cool! I always enjoy your fishing pics and comments. I'm going to do a two week trip in about a week. Hit me back if your interested in any info from the inland lakes around Chip Harbor. I'm going to fish each lake hardcore for 2-3 days.
