It all depends on your experience and the weather. Here's a couple of links to threads that have discussed it.johnp wrote:How difficult is kayak from Rock Harbor to Chippewa Harbor?

Wonderful! Great sunsets from the ridge behind the campground. Good fishing.johnp wrote:Also, How is Wood Lake?
Long! The trail's not too bad, relatively flat, just long (2+ miles)....johnp wrote:Finally, how is the portage from Lake Richie to Mosky Basin?

What kind of boat would you be using?
Last time I went that route I believe it was around 10-12 nautical miles. Not bad at all.

Damon

I'm going to canoe from Rock to Chip (mid July), depending on weather conditions. If the weather looks suspicious I'll do the portage from Moskey to Lake Ritchie.

The portage, as others have said, is ok, just LONG. The first part of the portage, you come off a little bridge and make a sharp left (Moskey to Ritchie). From there the trail is narrow and tree lined for a bit. It opens up after crossing a small stream and does little ups and downs and crosses several rock ledges, so be careful.
Wood Lake is a great place to spend time, nice lake to fish, nice campsites and Siskiwit is right around the corner.

We did Chippewa Harbor to Rock Harbor as the last day of our circumnavigation (see my posting). Just a caution that there are few pull outs, particularly if you're looking at winds that involve an "S" or an "E". We had a lot of clapotis, particularly after we rounded Saginaw Point. Just be careful!
