Re: Help with Fuel claculation
Just back today. Awesome trip. For the record: Coleman fuel costs $0.19 per ounce and is NOT purchased at the Rock Harbor store, it is sold at the Marina. I bought 24 ounces, and donated about 4 ounces to a ranger on my way out. I wasn't a miser Bout the fuel I used, but I wasn't wanton either.

Re: Help with Fuel claculation
Anyone know how much it costs per ounce?Vandy wrote: You purchase the fuel by the ounce. At the end of the trip they take back whatever you don't use.
No refunds of course.

Help with Fuel claculation
So - I have hiked ISRO twice, Each time a week long - once solo and another with my little girl. Both times I used an Optimus Nova (Not the Nova+) stove. I have both a 24.5 and 15.2 fl oz bottle for my stove. I know that I kept track of both trips and fuel usage, but having moved recently it appears ...

Re: Bug Update?
Planing a trip with my 10-y/o. We were there the week before Labor day 2 years ago - and saw a black fly and 2 mosquitoes. Last year, I went solo (same week - just before Labor day), and the bugs were present, but not bad between Chippewa Harbor and Moskey Basin - but didn't see any others between ...

Re: Looking for itinerary suggestions.
Ok - so after spending more time reading and evaluating possible itineraries, (and not yet nearly enough time packing  ) My plan is: Saturday - Arrive on the Queen, Possibly hike the Stoll trail after getting our permits, and hike to 3-mile via Tobin Harbor trail, and maybe go have a look-see ...

Re: Looking for itinerary suggestions.
So, I'm assuming that the Lane Cove trail is a technically difficult trail? After talking it over with the little one, I think we cannot hike Rock Harbor to Lane cove the first day -= and she REALLY wants to be in Daily farm on night 5. Is there a "reason" to go to Lane Cove? I have read here that ...

Looking for itinerary suggestions.
I'm planing a 9-day trip to ISRO with my 8-year old. We are seasoned backpackers, but owing the "puttering" tendencies of the little one, we tend to put on low-mile days. We CAN put on 78 mile days, but she prefers lots of puttering time - and is awesome at occupying herself wherever she finds ...

Re: Trails with easy water access - Eddison Fishery.
Thanks SO much for the info. I'm pretty sure we have an itinerary planned. Not sure we'll spend any time camping in non-designated campsites, but that'll be ok too. Most of my days are low-mile, like 4-5 - leaving LOT sof time to see things like caves and mine shafts and so on. I appreciate everyone ...

We are Homeschoolers, and each year starts and ends with a "field trip" to some remote place. She completes whatever programs she can and gets whatever certificates and patches she can. This year is ISRO. She's been wanting this for 2 years, and it's finally happening. Previous years have included ...

Re: Typical pack weight
You can have it LIGHTWEIGHT, You can have it DURABLE, You can have it INEXPENSIVE... PICK TWO . No kidding! I'll have to remember this - it's SO TRUE!!! Every time my eldest (NOT an outdoors person) comes with us, she complains about the weight or the cost.....I'll have to run this by her..... :D ...

Re: Water Chemical Treatment
When I called, specifically to ask about my Steri-pen (my backup - I use a miniworks EX) the ranger I spoke to said he uses just the miniworks, and has for years. It has a 0.2 micron pore size, so it filters all but viruii, if those are a concern, gram some chemical treatment tabs. FWIW, the Steri ...

Trails with easy water access - Eddison Fishery.
Hi, My little one (8yo) and I are taking a 9-day backpacking trip to ISRO the week before labor day. We hoped to avoid some of the crowds and most of the bugs. We're reasonably experienced backpackers, and have spent many hours on the trails. She caries a 18 lb pack and I cary a 40 lb one. We can ...

Hello and a question
HI! New here, and just about to embark on my first trip to ISRO. This trip has been in the "planning stage" for about 2 years, and it's finally going to happen! YAY! I hike with my 8-year old daughter (who is the entire reason I picked up backpacking altogether....we went car camping, and she HATED ...
