Re: Can't plan too early, questions for starting at Windigo
Ingo and torpified, thanks much for the info. Can't quite "how to" the reply to each of youse individually so hope you all get this. Torpified- My son is dialed into FKT and he's researching the route. I've seen some terminate at Lookout Louise while others go to the Hidden Lake dock. He wants to ...

Can't plan too early, questions for starting at Windigo
Son and I are planning to return to Isle Royale in June 2024. Son plans to do a trail run from Windigo to Rock Harbor in a day. I plan to take it easy taking the Voyager to RH. We are thinking of June for this as it's cooler on the ridge and fewer people although not deserted. Here's the general ...

Returning to IR, by seaplane?
Planning a return trip. Visited in June of 2019 via Copper Harbor. Considering the float plane for the fun of it. I'll call the operator but I thought I'd ask the great Isle Royale Forum Nation. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I understand the float plane service is pretty reliable but can get ...

Gordon Ramsay checking out forum faves
If any of you tend to watch chef Gordon Ramsay, the referenced article notes him checking out a few IR Forum favorites. Jameson's in Copper Harbor and Suomi Bakery in Houghton. Both great spots to hit before departing on the nearby boats. I'm sure he heard of it all here first. :D https://www.mlive ...

Re: TR 6/15-6/20 2019 3M-DF-Moskey-DF-RH, NO BUGS?
DM, Have a great trip. A couple two tree tings to relate if I may. If you stay in Houghton the night before the trip, I recommend the Super 8. I've stayed there quite a few times in the last few years. A great deck out back with tables and chairs. You can bring your favorite liquid refreshments. But ...

Re: TR 6/15-6/20 2019 3M-DF-Moskey-DF-RH, NO BUGS?
DM, thanks for the kind words. There's nothing wrong with taking it slow or even struggling from time to time. We are ages 64 and 70. 4 miles a day baby! We have the freedom of no longer worrying about trying to be cool. When our group hiked the Grand Canyon we saw numerous Rim to Rim runners. One ...

TR 6/15-6/20 2019 3M-DF-Moskey-DF-RH, NO BUGS?
Dear Isle Royale Forum, I never thought I'd be writing. I'm just a regular guy that's been longing to get to the island for many years. Two old guys took the Queen over on 6/15 returning 6/20. I just got home today. I intend to write more detail in the next few days geared toward first time visitors ...

Re: Finally getting to the Island, a few questions on sites
Thanks much for all the good info. Yes, Big Adventure Discussion And Sports Society. It started some years ago. A dad I had met years ago when our sons went through scouting approached me. We'd done many scout trips with the boys. Some paddling on the Current River in MO, Philmont Scout Ranch, and ...

Finally getting to the Island, a few questions on sites
Dear Isle Royale Forum Nation: I've been stalking this forum and planning a trip for far too long. This month is it. Three members of The Big Adventure Discussion And Sports Society will travel to the island. Copper Harbor to RH on 6/15 then likely camp at 3M, DF, McC, Moske, 3M, then depart on 6/20 ...

North Country Dreamland, outstanding video!
I did a quick check to see if there was any discussion on forum on this but no joy so I'm putting this out there. I came across a video produced by Shawn Malon made of a compilation of night time lapse shot all over the UP including on Isle Royale. I thought the users of this forum would enjoy it ...

It does not matter as my wife spent the dividend before I had even considered anything. Next year.

Re: Coffee making, best methods
Outstanding comments by all. After extensive debate based on much of the information provided on this very forum, the dads that accompanied Boy Scout troop 57 on a recent campout came to the following conclusion. For back packing, the Maxwell House individual packets hit the mark. Coffee is ...

Coffee making, best methods
What method(s) do you like best to make coffee while camping? With the diversity of knowledge, experience, and opinions of the fine folks that frequent this forum, there should be some valuable if not interesting reponses. For backpacking the island, a single cup drip filter works fine and I can ...
