Re: data Minong
In 2002, my friend and I went from Little Todd to N. Desor when we were in fantastic shape. We noted how it was some of the toughest terrain we've ever hiked- even more than the southern portion of the AT & areas in Glacier. We planned on staying at N. Desor but ended up going to Washington Creek ...

Re: Hiking Shoes?
A factor I always think of is that I often stub my toe while hiking, so a hard-shell toe box is a must.
Just something to think about. Who knows what factors you encounter that may come up.

Re: Trying to plan a first time canoe/portage trip
My first trip to the island was a canoe trip that looked like this:
-Arrive at Rock Harbor.
-Take Voyageur II to Malone Bay. Portage to Sikiwit Lake, paddle to Wood Lake campground.
-Day paddle around Whittlesey. (Great walleye in there!)
-Portage/ paddle Intermediate Lake/ portage/ paddle to Lake ...

Beef stroganoff with some of the Idahoan instant potatoes (that comes in the $1 packet) mixed in is great.

Re: Campsite/shelter question
You can stay as long as the maximum nights allowed.
Moskey & Daisy have a 3 night maximum consecutive night stay. See page 6 of the Greenstone for maximum nights allowed at each shelter/campsite:

I've stayed at different sites ...

Re: Submissions for PICTURE OF THE WEEK go here
Glad somebody else found my "secret" spot.
Where's the cabin located?
If you walk along the harbor's edge from the shelters towards Superior you will find it.
