Sounds like it was a great trip. Barefoot backpacking...wow! No thanks. Seems I need a few more trips to catch up to your number. Hopefully I’ll have #4 and 5 under my boots next year.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Itinerary advice for first time group
Looks like a relaxing itinerary. Moskey to Lane Cove will be a long day, but lots of fine scenery to be had along the way. If I spent 2 days at LC, I’d opt for a day hike to Lookout Louise.

Re: First Time Itinerary Advice!
Jumping on Ingo’s thought, you could do: Day 2: Desor S. - Todd Harbor: 11.8 Day 3: Todd- Chickenbone W: 9.3 Day 4: Chickenbone-daisy: 7.9 Day 5: Daisyfarm - Windigo via Voyager Or stick with your original itinerary as it’s doable. When I did it, I left Desor around 7:30, took an 1 1/2 hour break at ...

Re: First timer - wondering how difficulty compares to Jordan River Valley in L.P.?
I am quite familiar with Jordan Valley and have a few trips to IR under my belt. To be frank, Isle Royale is a lot harder...but oh so much more rewarding. Your itinerary is reasonable, but keeping your pack weight as light as safely possible will be important. I’m guessing you are taking the ferry o ...

Re: First Time Itinerary Advice!
I did S. Desor to Chickenbone on my 3rd. Trip to the Isle. It’s a fairly long day, especially in the heat on the Greenstone. I’m not suggesting it’s impossible and I don’t know what you 15+mile days covered in the past, but I’d definitely start early. There were water sources past Hatchet Lake in Jun ...

Re: First time to Isle Royale
My thinking behind having short days at McCargo and Todd was that I would be able to make camp early and either fish or go on short afternoon or evening hikes around those two campsites. Plus, I heard that McCargo is one of the best campsites on the island. What do y'all think? Also, I'm thinking ...

Re: First time to Isle Royale
I agree with Ingo; Moskey to Mcargo and McCargo to Todd will be short days. Consider skipping Mcargo and go from Moskey to Todd. This would allow you either a zero day or to break up the hike between Todd and Siskitwit. Having a fair idea of the Isle now, I’d consider this itinerary as doable for m ...

Re: Planning a 8 day adventure... looking for some advice
On my last visit, I took the same route with the same stops to Windigo...My return, after picking up my food package from the Voyager and a later than normal start back included stops at Island Mine, a “Nero” day at Desor South, West Chickenbone, Moskey Basin, and Rock Harbor...I did this in 10 days ...

Re: trail runners?
I'm a big believer in HYOH...while I don't understand the motivation behind the desire to rush past the scenery, I don't necessarily feel offended by those who do, just as I'm not put out by those who stay at the lodge and utilize water taxis for day hikes. Now, if I ever end up experiencing a rude ...

Re: NCT / Mantistee, take 2
12 miles on the NCT down there are a walk in the park compared to IR. I almost always hang a bear bag except on IR; it's a good habit in my mind. Ticks would have been an issue if I hadn't treated my clothes with permethrin. Good Parking at M55...Federal, so 5$ a day if I remember correctly- and you ...

NCT / Mantistee, take 2
I hiked from McCarthy Lake to m55/ Udell hills. There was a small bit of road walk. It was ok as far as scenic goes, with Udell being the highlight of the hike. There was a stretch where I stashed water to avoid a 2 mile round trip for water source. I had met my friend, who had started in Baldwin ...

Re: Camping overnight at Moskey Basin or McCargoe Cove?
Just FYI, your mileage between McCargo and Todd is way off unless you're planning to hike back out to the Greenstone and cut over at Hatchet Lake junction; otherwise it's about 6.5 miles if I remember correctly. Personally I'd choose Moskey as your first night...simply to watch the sunrise there the ...

Re: Windigo to Windigo 7 days/6 nights
If you have done extensive hiking on the AT and in decent shape, option 1 is doable knowing there are long days ahead. If you elect to do option 2, I'd cut out Hatchet Lake; leaving from S. Desor, you'll arrive at Hatchet before noon and frankly, I didn't find Hatchet interesting enough to spend a ...

Re: Ambitious Trip Advice
Feldtmann loop is still on my to do list, but I hear good things about it...but 18 mile day would be a killer for me (15 miles on the Greenstone was tough enough for me). Also on day 4 it appears you plan to camp (?) at Lookout Louise... there isn't a campground there. I won't discount the feltman ...
