Accessing Ducan bay by land?
I'm spending time later this week on the east end and would like to visit Duncan Bay. Does anyone have experience or know if it is possible hiking from the Greenstone or from Lane Cove to Duncan?

Thanks for the good news. I realize things can change quickly, but it sounds promising. The fact that you didn't encounter black flies is promising!!!

The ranger I have been e-mailing called me to discuss. She said the hammocks are fine in the backcountry, or in a designated site if it works. She does want to make sure we have the tree slings (not just rope) on the tree. She also wanted to make sure I had bug coverage. Regarding my questions on ...

Thanks Lucky Chicken - we are going to be on the east end of the island, but good to know. We have extender ropes for our hammocks so this should help find workable trees. I took the NPS response I posted above as it being ok to hammock camp in the backcountry rather than a "no". I've e-mailed for ...

Thanks for the response. We actually intend to stay at as many designated campsites as possible. The reason I'm interested in the backcountry question related to itinerary is becasue I'm using a hammock. A friend and I are planning on obtaining a backcountry permit and are aware of the various zones which are off limit.
