If you do bring poles, consider getting some cheap rubber tips. This will not only stop them from sticking into mud, but it will give you a lot more traction on rocks (and reduce your noise too so you can see more wildlife).

I think it looks fine. Consider the blowdown stuff--it's a very valid concern but you should be able to climb around things. Bring lots of socks and maybe an extra pair of shoes because those things will get wet. I'll see you on the boat and maybe on some of those trails.

As someone who loves first or second boat (Voyageur II), I can't imagine why you would postpone. I love that early spring on the island, obviously, although it can be a bit unpredictable.
