Re: Boating Question (Bass Boating to the Island)
This idea sounds a little crazy. Saw a couple guys fishing from a good-size Lund in Rock Harbor last year. The story behind that was, they put that boat on one of the ferries that service IR. Or to say it another way, they didn't use the Lund (which probably has a deeper hull than your bass boat) to ...

September 2016 Weather Forecast
I've been saving this.
It's not really useful but it is a good reminder, NOAA even goes into the specific forecast for Isle Royale National Park.
Vid taken from lake/campsite ????
Merry Christmas!

Re: Man's Role in Demise of Isle Royale Wolves
If wolves are a solution to the supposed problem of overpopulation of moose, why can't there be a moose hunt? Besides people's infatuation with megafauna like moose, there really wouldn't be much difference between taking moose or taking fish. Except, well a lot of $$$ could be generated by selling ...

Re: 2016 Isle Royale solo by packraft
I caught a single walleye Monday evening fishing the west end of the big island in Whittlesey, gave it to Mark since I was paddling into Wood the next morning. I was dragging a crankbait along the bottom in 10-12 feet of water.

Hi Redbad,
The canoe you saw on Whittlesley was mine. Saw you drift by as I was doing some chores. The gentleman with the kayak told me he talked some other campers into helping him on the portage.

Re: Best canoe route from Siskiwit to RH?
Well, the trip is in the books. Great time. I ended up getting a water taxi to Chippewa, then doing a loop Ettlesey, Wood, Siskiwit, Intermediate, Richie, Moskey, RH. Got a walleye out of Ettlesey and lots of pike in Wood and Richie. Got skunked on Siskiwit. Appreciate the advice posted here ...

Re: Bushwack Question
I'm new to IR but going next week also. I've bushwacked in Boundary Waters (where there are no lectures about leaving the trails) and it's easy to get into thick stuff you really regret. Especially since you're looking at about 2 miles as a crow flies.
Let us know how it goes!

Thank you for being honest about what you didn't like. So many of these reviews are, "everything was awesome." The "dirty laundry" stuff is more useful for planning a good trip.

Re: Best canoe route from Siskiwit to RH?
Also, that stretch of open water between Malone Bay (or Chippewa Harbor) and Daisy Farm would be near the bottom of my list for a first venture into The Big Lake on the south side of the Island. I think I'm hearing that the scenery, still being better than my cubicle, would be fairly static and the ...

Best canoe route from Siskiwit to RH?
I'm planning a solo canoe trip after Labor day. Probably getting a water taxi from RH to the Belle Isle area, then fishing/paddling/portaging my way to Siskiwit. Biggest question in my mind is how best to get from Siskiwit to RH given 3 or 4 days. Should I risk the open water and paddle the big lake ...

Re: First Time, Itinerary Posted, Solo Hike
Thanks Mark. For that price, it's a no brainer to pick up one of those Baofengs.
Only about a month till your trip. Have a great time!

Re: First Time, Itinerary Posted, Solo Hike
Hi Mark,
Interesting post. I'm officially a HAM (tech) though I operate very little. Since I'm gearing up for my first IR trip (in September) and was planning to pick up a weather radio, any suggestions on something I could operate with?
TIA
