Here is the first half of the trip. I think I have found my favorite method for travel to the island. We live 9-10 hours from Houghton and copper harbor. It is such a pain to drive through the night for the camp pre boat. Leaving early, driving all day, and flying the last flight out is great. This ...

What are good setups for canoeing setup for sites without fire?

I am wondering what people would like to run for campsites on the inland lakes that do not allow fire. I do not have the equipment to fry fish on my jet boil, at least I don't think so.
I could see a pan and lid with maybe a diffuser and ...
Help me out. Thoughts?

Re: Superintendant's Compendium

Pleasant read. Three things of note, It does not seem possible for any boat or plane to comply with the strict reading of the decontamination procedure. Face masks, aside from public transportation, are not required for fully vaxed. The back country distance to lake or streams for camping is 100 ft ...

Re: Water filter setup upgrade

I worked well. I made it tight and it threaded on easy. But when I screw the new adapter lid in had too much pressure and couldn’t drip. Hence the pressure relief hole.

My extra Nalgene lid came today and I modified it.

Re: TR: 9/6-9/16, 2021 [Rock to Windigo via a mix of trails]

Overall trip thoughts: One thing that surprised me throughout my trip was just how friendly other hikers were on the island. I really enjoyed getting to know other hikers and hearing about their trips, observations, experiences, etc. The unique hiker-culture on the island really enhanced my trip!! ...

Re: Three Litters of Wolves born on IR

So this is a little second hand info, I heard it separately from another hiker and a ranger. On the evening of 9/12 there was a wolf in the Feldtman Lake campground. I heard more details but I was hoping they were posters on the forum and would share first hand.

Re: How much should you assist other hikers on their plans?

"ambitious" agendas Haha On our first trip, the ranger wrote overly ambitious on the permit. I wasn’t part of the planning and just knew I only had to out hike at least one group member. But she was right. Oops. Only lost one toenail. This situation, they would have had to hike at least 5...

Water filter setup upgrade

I try to make an upgrade to my gear after each trip. This summer there was much complaining on our water setup for a five-some. So I went out and bought a silicone gravity bag. It scopes water quick, holds a gallon and half, and attached right to the Sawyer filter barb fitting. It was super sweet. C...

Re: Algae bloom at Richie, Chickenbone and Intermediate and Livermore

Any suggested books, articles about algal blooms. I'm considering another hike from McCargoe to Chippewa Harbor (hopefully) next year. I might have to hike directly from McCargoe again, to Chippewa Harbor. Especially, if I can't get water along the way. I'm curious about could the water be used ear...
