Re: My list of Weather Buoys & WebCams
Good list, Red Leg. You you obviously know how to delve into the HTML of our website and find the raw data. The park spends a not insignificant amount of time and money installing, operating and maintaining the webcams. We do use the webcam images internally to keep an eye on the park and weather ...

Re: Webcam Feedback
Link to the camera not on the website I inadvertently used as an example: https://www.nps.gov/webcams-isro/mottsw.jpg Our website managers are seasonal and currently not at work. Once they get back after New Years, I suspect they will be updating the website to include this view. In the meantime ...

Webcam Feedback
Looking for opinions on the webcam images. The current webcams have good low light performance and the ability to use very long shutter times with lots of gain. This makes images at night appear unnaturally bright... almost like daylight if there is a good moon. Upside of that is you can often see ...

Re: Need help finalizing itinerary
It's manageable provided you all are fit, experienced, and no one gets injured. You're not going to be pulling thousands of feet of elevation gain in a day... but be prepared for generally SLOW trails. Lots of rocks, roots, and arrow uneven tread. There will be lots of windfalls not cleaned up yet ...

Re: first ferry get off?
Didn't notice Voyageur II go by Mott, but no reason to think they didn't run. Staff at dinner tonight mentioned they saw their first visitors of the year on the trail this afternoon. It's been beautiful warm and sunny the past week. Only the tiniest bits of snow hidden deep in the shade remain.

Re: New Webcam
yes, the station is up on a ridge near Windigo. A good bit off the trail so it's not generally noticed. @wiscodude Some of the cameras used have the ability to display temperature along with the image, but the temperature is internal to the camera and the cameras are not mounted at the standard ...

Re: Real Time Weather Stations on the island
The park has parts on order for the Mt Ojibway weather station. Should be back up and running soon.

Re: New Webcam
In addition to the Passage Island and Rock of Ages Lighthouse weather stations, which are operated and maintained by NOAA, the park maintains 2 automated RAWS stations on the island. The automated stations can be accessed with these links: https://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/meso_base_dyn.cgi ...

Nice work digging in and seeing how the pages are formed, RedLeg. Sounds like you know a thing or two about this stuff. Images are often pushed out of the cameras at a higher resolution than we display on the public website. When the webpage is built, the webmaster (not me) sets the size of the ...

Re: New Webcam
The webcams use cellular data modems to communicate with the world during the winter months when the island is not open. The signal comes from the Keweenaw Peninsula about 60 miles distant. Unfortunately, this Fall just about the time the island was closing, the cellular provider used by the park ...

Lights on the left side are from the U.P. of Michigan.. Lights on the right are from Canada... along the shoreline North of the border. Thunder Bay is more to the North (right) of that image. Winter project is calling out landmarks/light locations to help people orient themselves Here is another ...

New Webcam
The Ojibway SW Webcam has been replaced with a newer camera. View is similar, but new camera has a different focal length so produces a more natural appearing image with less fisheye effect. Camera also has very good low light performance so you can actually see some stuff in the dark of night ...

Re: Feedback request: Greenstone webcam videos
Great timelapse! Nice work putting those together. Communications from the webcams are never 100%. Power availability is definitely a limiting factor for the quantity and reliability of images posted to the web. The system are pretty conservatively designed.. the equipment all has to run for 6 ...
