There is also a webcam, I think it’s on Michigan Tech’s website, that you can follow the Ranger III ferry dock activity and the arrival/departures in Houghton.

It looks like the College Avenue View & Lift Bridge cams probably catch it; with the bridge cam getting the better shots

Good list, Red Leg. You you obviously know how to delve into the HTML of our website and find the raw data.

The park spends a not insignificant amount of time and money installing, operating and maintaining the webcams. We do use the webcam images internally to keep an eye on the park and weather conditions, but by far the biggest reason we do it is so the public can experience and enjoy the island from wherever they are. We love for you to come out and experience the island in person, but the webcams are a great way for you to get a little bit of Isle Royale without you having to pay and invest the tome for a trip out and without much impact to the island itself and our resources to manage the effects of your visitation.

Without public use and interest, the park simply wouldn't have the webcams as we know them and wouldn't be working to install and operate more. Public use and interest is measured by the statistics generated on the NPS website, social media posts by the public talking about the webcams, and comments made by users to our staff.

Here's the problem- Due to some technical nuances of how our website works, viewing the webcams through the direct image links Red Leg posted doesn't register in our statistics because it's not the actual published webpage for the cameras. Everyone is welcome to use those links, but can't guarantee they will always work as they do now (We're getting ready for some pretty big internal changes to how the cameras interact with the site), and be aware that your use and interest isn't tallied so we don't fully realize the impact of the time and resources invested there. We're tight on money to run the place so always looking to invest where it makes the most impact.

I would respectfully ask that if you want to help keep the webcams up and going, you use the published links or webpages to view them at least some of the time so the park knows you're interested. Reposts or snips on social media are noticed and noted by the park's social media people and appreciated as it lets other people not watching our website experience a little bit of the island. Comments and suggestions made by email or using the comment cards are always welcome (on any subject) also. They seriously do get looked at and used in making decisions/plans.

Be on the lookout for some additional views coming up this season. We have some (hopefully) good things in the works, and are always open to suggestions, but keep in mind there are lots of technical and legal limitations of where and how we can put cameras in addition to the financial ones.

What is your favorite island webcam?

I'll edit the URL links to reflect the tracking links in the HTML code for the ones that I can access it on. I never bothered to run any queries to see what else was out there, this is just the ones that were easily attainable without any coding on my end. Dev work isn't my forte'

My personal favorite views are the NE / SW Greenstone ridge cams but the North Shore & Middle Island cameras often get some phenomenal pictures too.

Thanks for posting the Space Weather Prediction Center main page. On that page, under the “dashboards “ link, there’s the Space Weather Enthusiasts Dashboard which is my go-to page. NOAA set that up a couple years back to put a lot of info that casual skywatchers would want, in one spot. Check it out - includes current sunspots, geomagnetic indices of various kinds, views from the space telescopes that are watching the sun, the solar cycle progression, and the aurora projection all on one page.
