When I took the seaplane a few years ago they also allowed the solid fuel tablets for esbit stoves.

Re: First IR visit, planning on doing the Greenstone Ridge T
The seaplane will drop you off at Windigo and pick you up in Rock Harbor or vice-versa if you wish. Saves travel time as well, flight is only a half hour each way. Regarding the one night limit at Rock Harbor camground, you can stay more than one night depending on the date of your stay, the limit ...

Re: Manistee River Trail-North Country Trail Loop in April
My uncle and me hiked the Manistee River Trail a couple times in the last few years and it has some very nice views. The last time we went was Mother's day weekend 2 or 3 years back. We had my dog with us and all of us ended up with ticks on us near the southern end of the trail, apparently it was a ...

Private Sea Planes Allowed In Isle Royale NP
I was curious if anyone out there knows the park rules regarding someone flying there own or a rental sea plane into IRNP. Are there places to dock or moor available to leave the plane for a few days while going hiking?

Re: Windigo Supplies for Gas
The last time I was there they didn't have the MSR gas, but they did have large cans of Primus gas that worked with our Pocket Rocket stoves. If you contact them they'll let you know what they have, I've done so in the past and they were very detailed as to what they stock.

Re: Craig Lake State Park - Michigan/UP
Yes, we are going to EAA Airventure. Went in '05 and it was really something to see and experience. Unfortunately, we're going this year primarily for the memorial wall ceremony as a friend of our's name will be on it. Going to go to the show on the Friday and Saturday before the wall ceremony and ...

Re: Craig Lake State Park - Michigan/UP
You're welcome. Oddly enough, I was just reading up on Craig Lake State Park last night and considering checking it out if we go through the U.P. on the way to Oshkosh this July.

Re: 4 night trip, need advice
On my first trip to Isle Royale, I did the Windigo to Rock Harbor trip in 4 nights. I stayed at South Desor, Hatchet Lake, West Chickenbone, and Daisy Farm. I got up very early on the last day and got to Rock Harbor around 9AM and left on the seaplane around 11. On my most recent trip to the island ...

Re: Craig Lake State Park - Michigan/UP
I think Jonhens is referring to the road into Craig Lake state Park. The following info on the road into Craig Lake is from the Hunts' Guide to Michigan's UPPER PENINSULA website http://hunts-upguide.com/michigamme_craig_lake_state_park.html "Normal vehicles can now use the seven-mile access road ...

Re: Craig Lake State Park - Michigan/UP
I hiked the Manistee River Trail a couple years ago some time around Mother's day. I really liked the trail and scenery, but I saw more people in the first half hour than I saw in a week on Isle Royale. Also, me, my uncle, and dog all ended up with ticks on us.

Re: Boots
My hiking boots are Cabela's Perfekt Hiker. I've worn them on 3 Isle Royale trips and other backpacking trips with no problems, they are on the heavy side though.

Re: Coffee making, best methods
I use a filter kit made by coghlan's, it comes with a bunch of small coffee filters that have holes punched in them at the top that a plastic rod goes through and supports it on the top of your mug. Easy to use and tastes better than instant or singles because you use your favorite coffee, cheap too ...

Re: Canoe wanted to buy
I have an Old Town Stillwater model, 12' long, Fiberglass, about 35#, 2 seats. It's very stable. Old Town also makes a one seat canoe called the Pack that weighs 33# and is made of Royalex.
