Girlfriend and I are going on our first IR trip together the first week of September. Trying to decide if we'd be better off with our Rail Rider's Adventurer shirts (good ventilation and protection) or long sleeve merino baselayer (warmer). We both have good lightweight puffy jackets for around camp and good 3-season sleeping bags for night. So this is primarily for hiking purposes.
Thanks in advance, I'm finding lots of useful information on these forums for hammering out the remaining details of our trip!

Re: Baslayer Top for First week of Sept
I personally would go lighter. If it's sunny, it should be pretty warm; and even if it's windy the lake temp is still pretty warm in September and shouldn't chill you too bad. Hiking will keep you warm, and you can always layer up.
The evenings, however, will start to get cool, so a warmer layer for camp would be desired.

Re: Baslayer Top for First week of Sept
I agree with Tom. I go the end of september and wear my Rail Riders shirt for hiking and have been for years. It still gets warm. Evenings you will most likely need to layer up. I find thin gloves to be very handy in the fall evenings while working around camp. On my many September trips, I have had one layer on in the evening to most everything I have all in the same week. It's a great time to go though!
