Lunch on the Voyager II
We will be onboard the Voyager II for Saturday's run. I understand that the sandwiches have been discontinued for the season. We are staying at Ryden's on Friday night (but will arrive after the store closes). Planning to have breakfast at Ryden's on Saturday morning before heading to the dock. We'd prefer to have a sandwich on the boat instead of just "junk food". So, my question to those of you familiar with the area...what (if any) are the options for this? Can we pick up a sandwich at Ryden's in the morning? Do we need to pick up something in Duluth on our way up? Other thoughts, ideas, etc? I'd appreciate any input you all can provide.
Many thanks!

Re: Lunch on the Voyager II
Rydens will make you a sandwich to go. But they weren't great--just a basic sandwich on bread. They were kinda soggy by the time we ate them, so I'd stay away from tomatoes and get them "dry" and bring some condiment packets.

We always pick up Subways in Grand Marais the day before.

There is the Rendevous, a convenience store in Grand Portage right off the highway. They have sandwiches and other assorted treats.

Re: Lunch on the Voyager II
Like Bob, we've tended to pick up sandwiches or other items in Grand Marais on the way up. Sometimes that's just gas-stationesque sandwiches, but those work, too..
I recall one year we picked up items at the "Trading Post" in Grand Portage (right along the highway), including sandwiches, etc. The following year we went to do the same, and they didn't have any of the sandwich like items, so we were burned on that one. I recall checking again this spring, and they didn't seem to have those type sandwiches, again. Who knows.
Safest bet, have something in hand before departing Marais..

The trading post has a deli counter/breakfast bar. We bring snacks for lunch on VII. The counter is open before VII leaves, but we had breakfast at Ryans. We had a sub and soup the evening before at the Post. Ryans closes at 2:00 PM. It was good enough.

Re: Lunch on the Voyager II
Ryden's Cafe closed for the season on Sept. 11th, a little earlier than normal this year due to some staffing shortages. The grill in the Trading Post is open from 7am to 7pm Friday through Sunday, but they have some c-store type junk if you want, the lounge in the Casino has great pizza, (way better than that place in Grand Marais IMHO), entrees and sandwiches in the bar until 9pm. Grand Marais has several options including Dockside Fish Market's sandwiches and other items, and Subway. Breakfast could be tough though if you want to get to the marina before the boat leaves.
