Tallest Lake Cliffs on IR
Hey all,
I am heading back to IR next summer and really want to get some nice photos of some tall lake cliffs. Does anyone know where some are?
I saw some nice ones on the South part of Tookers island when I was there this year and at the far North side of Scoville Point.
Thanks in advance!
Aaron

The "north side of Scoville Point" is known as "The Palisades."
Chippewa Harbor has some pretty high and steep "sides" but I would hesitate to call them cliffs. Same for the entrance to Duncan Bay.

I think they are cliffs in Chippewa Harbor. And they are beautiful! Unfortunately, you can't get on top of them (not easily, I'd imagine).Tampico wrote:Chippewa Harbor has some pretty high and steep "sides" but I would hesitate to call them cliffs.

Thanks for the help. I thought the Palisades though were at the tip of Blake Point, the island's Eastern most tip?
I have never hiked out there, but looking at a map shows this. Is the entire Eastern tip area, all of the finger tips included, known collectively as The palisades?
Also, I plan on including Chippewa harbor on my next trip in July so thanks for reinforcing this decision!
I have never been to the Western side of the island so I was wondering if anyone knew what cliffs were on that side.
And since it is ITlaPD I'll end this post by saying - Argh, I really appreciate you helping me as I look to explore the ins and outs of the Isle of Royale with my dastardly crew of scallywags. Har!

My mistake I was thinking Blake Point, not Scoville. As far as I know, the Palisades are the vertical basalt cliffs at the end of Blake point at the following coordinates:akbussey wrote:Thanks for the help. Chippewa Harbor is such a beautiful area. There's a LOT to explore there, as well. You will not be disappointed. Be sure to hit this place on your trek.akbussey wrote:Also, I plan on including Chippewa harbor on my next trip in July so thanks for reinforcing this decision!

I'm not sure exactly where this was taken but I'm guessing that since the previous picture in sequence was Passage Island it is the Palisades. If not and you're interested, contact Mary at pastycam.com. She works there and the picture is in her gallery.

No, not the Palisades. That actually looks a lot like the cliffs on your port side as you enter Chippewa Harbor.

I say they look awesome for sure!
Thanks for the photo and link. Has anyone seen the cliffs near Lookout Louise? I have read that they are quite tall as well.
