Edible Flora on IR
Hey guys, I am well aware of the presence of blueberries and thimbleberries on the island. I was wondering if anybody had current info on the ripeness of these delicious treats as I will be departing this coming week for an 8 day trip. Also, are there any hot spots that anyone is willing to divulge where one may find large numbers of these plants? I understand it may be a guarded secret, but figure it's worth a try!

Bulletin board from Windigo.
If you zoom in you can at least see the name and the faces that tell if it is good or not.

Don't forget the June/service berries! Make sure to eat the dark ones.
two steps away...Blueberries!
and two more steps away... Rasberries!
All were at....... Wood Lake camp, up on the rocks.

Hi THomas. Just got back from a week on the island (Aug 2-10). Blueberries were just peaking and we had our fill. Saw (and ate) a few ripe thimbleberries, but I'd say we were about a week too early for them. They should be ready when you get there. We were mostly west-central. LOTS of blueberries around the Ojibway tower and thimbleberries are everywhere.
Realized I made a mistake in my comment above...we were east-central, not west.

The apples at Daisy Farm can be eaten. The wolves love them. The ranges have to pick them up and get rid of them to keep the wolves from congregating there.
